Robin Mahapatra is Senior Counsel on the firm’s Tax team.
Robin has ample experience providing expert tax advice at the international, federal, state and local levels. He has advised real estate investors and developers on the tax structuring and operation of various joint ventures as well as advising general partners and limited partners investing in domestic and foreign hedge funds, real estate funds and private equity funds. Robin is experienced in M&A transactions and has advised buyers and sellers on the acquisition and disposition of small and large businesses. Robin has deep knowledge of section 1031 forward and reverse exchanges as well as solving exchange problems using swap and drops, tenants-in-common and other structures. Robin also advises on California property tax issues such as events that trigger reassessments or the application of documentary transfer taxes. Robin also has advised numerous tax credit investors and developers regarding the New Markets Tax Credit, the Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit and the Investment Tax Credit.
Having practiced as a business lawyer for almost two decades, Robin is aware of the need for business and tax planning at all stages of business operations and transactions. He is also admitted to practice in California, New York and the District of Columbia and is a licensed real estate broker in California.
