COX, CASTLE & NICHOLSON LLP WELCOMES LAND USE VETERAN

IRVINE, Calif. – May 31, 2018 Cox, Castle & Nicholson LLP, a preeminent full-service law firm focused on real estate in the United States, today announced that Sean Matsler has joined the firm as its newest land use partner. Matsler brings 15 years of experience securing entitlements for myriad real estate clients to bolster the firm’s robust land use practice, a group that earned the 2018 National Tier 1 Law Firm of the Year for Land Use and Zoning Law in the 2018 U.S. News & World Report and Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms” rankings.

“For 50 years, Cox Castle’s land use practice has been an invaluable resource to the Southern California – and Western United States – real estate communities, and the firm’s dynamic group has navigated nearly every kind of development project in existence,” said Mario Camara, senior partner on Cox, Castle & Nicholson’s management committee. “Sean’s extensive experience in this area will continue to strengthen the firm’s trusted counsel to clients and we look forward to having him play an integral role across the entire spectrum of land use law.”

Matsler’s practice focuses on securing entitlements for residential, commercial, industrial and institutional real estate development projects. He advises clients on some of the country’s most challenging real estate regulations such as the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), California Coastal Act and local planning and zoning regulations.

Recent and ongoing projects under Matsler’s strategic legal guidance include four large residential and mixed-use projects in Newport Beach; the revitalization of Dana Point Harbor; an 80-unit residential project in Yorba Linda; a 250-unit infill multifamily development in Santa Ana; a 100-unit senior housing project in North Tustin and a 3 million-square-foot industrial, retail and office complex in Eastvale.

“Cox, Castle & Nicholson’s stellar reputation and specialization in real estate was an enormous draw for me when deciding to join the firm,” said Matsler. “It is a privilege to be part of such a knowledgeable team that is committed to serving their clients with excellence through all facets of real estate.”

Prior to Cox, Castle & Nicholson, Matsler was a land use partner for distinguished global law firms. He was recognized with Public Counsel’s 2013 Pro Bono of the Year Award, was named a Southern California “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers the same year and earned the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California’s 2009 Religious Liberty Award. Matsler earned his juris doctor from University of Southern California and his bachelor’s degrees in history and political science from University of California, Berkeley.

An active member of industry and community organizations, Matsler serves on the boards of Urban Land Institute (ULI) Orange County/Inland Empire, Building Industry Association of Orange County and OC Marathon Foundation. A Newport Beach resident, Matsler is based in the firm’s Orange County office.
