Cox, Castle & Nicholson LLP Names New Partners For 2008: Three New Partners Are Elected From The Los Angeles And Orange County Offices
January 2, 2007 - Cox, Castle & Nicholson LLP, a leading California real estate law firm, announces the election of three associate attorneys to the partnership. The new partners located in the Los Angeles office are Caroline Dreyfus and Joanna Huchting; and in the Orange County office, Hans Lauterbach.

Hans Lauterbach focuses his practice on the areas of commercial property acquisition, development, leasing and construction with an emphasis in shopping center development. His practice encompasses drafting and negotiating commercial leases; purchase and sale agreements; construction contracts and architects agreements; covenants, conditions and restrictions and reciprocal easement agreements; site development agreements and cost sharing agreements; loan documents and opinion letters; and related matters. He has represents developers, owners, landlords, tenants and others involved in complex real estate transactions. He has authored or co-authored various articles on the topic of retail leasing and is a co-author of Retail Leasing, a comprehensive two-volume manual on negotiating retail leases published in 2007 by the California Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB). Mr. Lauterbach is a frequent speaker on the topics of retail and office leasing. Mr. Lauterbach is a 1993 graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara and earned his Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1997, where he graduated in the top 3% of his class earning the distinction of magna cum laude. Mr. Lauterbach received American Jurisprudence Awards in Real Property, Torts and Remedies, served as an Editor of the San Diego Law Review and is a member of the Order of the Coif. Mr. Lauterbach is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and the Orange County Bar Association.
Caroline Dreyfus’ practice focuses on all facets of real estate finance . Ms. Dreyfus represents both borrowers and lenders in all types of real estate finance transactions involving office buildings, multi-family properties, retail shopping centers, mixed use projects, condominium buildings and hotels and raw land. The types of transactions on which Ms. Dreyfus has worked include acquisitions, dispositions, construction loans, mortgage loans, mezzanine loans, lines of credit, and sale-leaseback transactions. She has also represented lenders in large cross collateralized, cross defaulted multistate transactions with multiple borrowers. Ms. Dreyfus was named one of the most influential women in commercial real estate by the Real Estate Southern California Magazine in 2007. Ms. Dreyfus is a member of the State Bar of California, the State Bar of Arizona and the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Ms Dreyfus graduated from the University of Arizona in 1995 (cum laude) with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing. In 1998, Ms. Dreyfus received her Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University College of Law. Ms. Dreyfus was an associate editor of the Ohio State Journal on Dispute Resolution.
Joanna Huchting is a litigator with substantial experience handling complex construction defect, insurance coverage and bad faith, and residential real estate disputes. Her practice focuses also on risk management, including counseling builders and developers on complex pre-lawsuit claims in an effort to avoid litigation. Ms. Huchting has litigated a broad range of disputes including mold and water intrusion claims, purchase and sale disputes, warranty disputes, lis pendens claims, easement and access claims, property valuation claims, breach of contract disputes, misrepresentation and non-disclosure claims and statutory real estate claims. She routinely serves as personal counsel for builders and developers, overseeing panel counsel hired by insurance companies to defend against construction defect litigation. Ms. Huchting has handled numerous arbitrations, as well as several trials and appeals. Ms. Huchting was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1998 after receiving her law degree from the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law. She graduated magna cum laude from Loyola Marymount University in 1995. Ms. Huchting is a member of the National Association of Home Builders’ Forum of Legal Counsel and its Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution. She is a member of the Orange County Building Industry Association’s Construction Quality Committee. She is active on both the state and local levels, including in monitoring and promoting legislative reforms. For her participation, Ms. Huchting was honored with the 2007 Associate Member of the Year award by the Building Industry Association of Southern California. Ms. Huchting is a member of the State Bar of California and the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
